BATON ROUGE - Plaquemine Senior High School fell to University Lab 72-52 Dec. 3 at Pennington-McKernan Gym before winning two of three in the Cubs' tournament.

The Green Devils (5-4), under coach Donald Ray Johnson, defeated Redemptorist 62-22 before falling to St. Michael the Archangel 58-50 and dropping Broadmoor 60-36.

Plaquemine returns to the court Friday when they travel to Morgan City before hosting St. James on Monday and participating in the Wildcats' tournament Dec. 19-20.

Wayde Sims led the Cubs with a game-high 31 points including 22 in the first half. D.J. White added 12 and John Jones and Maxwell Starwood each had 10.

"I didn't fell like we played hard enough," Johnson said "We didn't start out real aggressive and they got a lot of easy baskets.

"We started pressing in the second half and got some turnovers but it seemed like it was too late."

Devante Marshall led Plaquemine with 11 points. Cameron Garner added 10 including two 3-pointers.

Sims finished with nine in the first quarter despite neither team scoring in the first 2:38 of the game. Garner and Damion Oubre each hit 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 16-10 going into the second quarter.

"When we are at our best, we are balanced and the tougher it is to defend us," University coach Joe Spencer said.

The Cubs extended the lead to 35-25 at the half behind 13 from Sims and led 55-39 going into the final frame.

Plaquemine will host the Green Devil Classic Dec. 26-28. Participating teams include White Castle, Dutchtown, Thibodaux, Amite, Livonia, St. James and Brusly.
