PLAQUEMINE - Plaquemine Senior High School built a 19-point halftime lead and cruised to a 75-38 victory in their opening game of the Green Devil Classic on Thursday night.

The Green Devils (9-7), under coach Donald Ray Johnson, also defeated Brusly 51-44 on Friday to advance to the tournament final where they fell to Dutchtown 42-41 on Saturday.

"In December is when you really want to come together and start playing well," Johnson said. "When we start guarding people and playing defense, that is when we play well.

"We still want to play inside out. We have some big guys that can score in there so we want to be balanced but we can shoot it. Some days well and some days not. We just haven't been shooting it consistently."

Clifton "C.J." Young led the Green Devils against Livonia with 15 points. Louis "Trey" Conerly added 14 including four 3-pointers, while Cameron Garner added 11, Devante "D.J." Marshall and Jodeci Harris each eight, Demetrius Franklin six, Kirkland Jones and Trevor Jones each four, Darwin James three and Austin Mitchell two.

Marshall's tip put Plaquemine ahead for good 10-8 in the first quarter after Conerly and James' trey each gave the Green Devils early leads.

Plaquemine used a 19-0 run to open the second quarter that included seven straight points by Young.

Conerly converted a layup off a steal to open the second half and his second trey of the frame pushed the lead to 53-20. Mitchell's dish to Harris inside and layup off a steal preceded Damion Oubre's assist to Kirkland Jones to push the lead to 61-24 going into the fourth.

Harris' second putback put the Green Devils ahead 69-26 in the fourth before Oubre fed Trevor Jones inside.

Plaquemine trailed Brusly 26-14 at halftime. Marshall led the Green Devils with 14 points and Garner added 10.
