WHITE CASTLE - White Castle High School held St. John to just five first half points and cruised to a 47-19 District 8-1A victory on Friday night at WCHS' gym.

The Lady Bulldogs (10-12, 2-0), under coach Tammy Pierce, also played Ascension Catholic on Tuesday. White Castle travels to West St. John Friday and hosts East Iberville Tuesday.

"We know we don't have a lot of depth and aren't very strong in the post so we have to be quick and run the floor," Pierce said "We tried to push the ball and get in transition to make it easier on set plays when we don't have legitimate post players. We tend to play to our opponent's level and got a little frustrated when they started blowing the whistle, which took the confidence out of us."

St. John (6-14, 0-2), under coach Chase Mancuso, also played West St. John Tuesday. The Lady Eagles host East Iberville Friday and travel to Ascension Christian Tuesday.

"We couldn't hit a shot and got into foul trouble pretty quickly," Mancuso said. "We put an emphasis on getting to the basket but we still just turned the ball over way too much which led to too many layups. We have to be able to put the ball in the hole."

Shyler O'Bear led White Castle with a game-high 20 points including four 3-pointers. Skylar O'Bear added 11, Brooklyn Falcon and Damiond Jenkins each seven and Ashanti Knight two.

Gracie Trahan led St. John with eight points. Payton Passantino added seven and Samantha Rivet, Keri Yarbrough and Samantha Fleniken each two.

White Castle took a 16-1 lead into the second quarter behind five points each from Skylar O'Bear and Falcon and four from Jenkins. The Lady Bulldogs extended the lead to 25-5 at halftime.

Shylar O'Bear nailed the first of three third quarter 3-pointers to open the stanza before converting two more treys from opposite wings. Skylar O'Bear's dish to Jenkins inside pushed the lead to 38-8 going into the fourth quarter after Passantino converted twice in a row off a jumper and putback for a three-point play.

Shelbi Strickland fed Trahan twice inside to cut it to 40-19 following Rivet's putback but the Lady Eagles didn't score again.

Skylar O'Bear's 3-pointer from the right wing reflected the final tally after the Lady Bulldogs converted 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch.
