East Iberville pushes past Eagles in 8-1A play

PLAQUEMINE - East Iberville High School used a third quarter surge to pull away from St. John 73-58 in District 8-1A play on Saturday afternoon at SJHS' gym.

The Tigers (9-13, 3-1), under coach Doug Schultz, host West St. John Friday and travel to Ascension Catholic Tuesday after a makeup game with White Castle tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

"As young as we are and as bad as we are playing, it is a good win," Schultz said.

The Eagles (10-13, 0-4), under coach Antonio Broadway, travel to Ascension Catholic Friday and host White Castle Tuesday.

East Iberville led 12-10 going into the second quarter and 27-25 at the half before taking a 55-41 lead into the fourth.

Kylen Popular led the Tigers with 31 points including two 3-pointers. Quantae Johnson added 16, Tyler James 11, Khris Grace 10, Junius Chong four and Kedrick Oubre one.

Willie Williams led St. John with 19 points. Hayden Hemenway added 17 including three 3-pointers, while Princeton Young had nine, Bailey Whittington five, Gavin Landry four and Tyler St. Germain and Gavin Primeaux each two.
