BATON ROUGE  - Plaquemine Senior High School took control from the tip and cruised to a 42-13 District 6-4A victory over Tara on Saturday afternoon at THS' gym.

The Lady Green Devils (14-10, 2-2), under coach Brannon Dillon, travel to Belaire Friday and host Lutcher Tuesday.

"This keeps us in the chase," Dillon said. "We just told our starters to do what they had to do. They only played about a quarter and a half to allow our younger people to get some experience."

Jernasha Collins led Plaquemine with 13 points. Asia Nelson and Kiffani Young each added nine, O'Neisha Batiste four, Asia Marshall three and Taejah Watkins, Shakira Wicks and Shaunece Mitchell each two.

Enjolia Pickens led Tara (0-9, 0-4) with six points. Bethany Hughes added five and Alexis Quinn two.

Nelson's 3-pointer from the left corner put Plaquemine ahead 11-0 in the first quarter after Collins and Young quickly established themselves in the post by converting inside off assists. Hughes' 3-pointer put Tara on the board and Pickens' cut it to 15-6 going into the second quarter.

The Lady Green Devils held Tara scoreless in the second quarter to build a 27-6 halftime lead. Collins' conversion of a steal followed Young's inside bucket and Batiste's layup off a steal.

Collins added a putback and baseline drive in the third quarter before Nelson converted an offensive rebound. Marshall's 18-footer from the left wing pushed the lead to 40-8 going into the fourth quarter following Watkins' baseline jumper and Pickens' coast to coast layup in transition.

Pickens reflected the final tally in the fourth quarter following Wicks' baseline drive.
