WHITE CASTLE - White Castle High School only trailed by one point at half but couldn't keep pace with Ascension Catholic in a 67-59 District 8-1A loss on Friday night at WCHS' gym.

The Lady Bulldogs (14-15, 6-3), under coach Tammy Pierce, also fell to West St. john 51-46 on Tuesday night after defeating East Iberville 49-40 in a makeup game Wednesday. White Castle wraps up the regular season on Friday at East Iberville.

"The rest of the season is crucial," Pierce said. "We just have to get in the gym and bounce back.

"We started playing way too late. They made a big adjustment from the first time we saw them and wanted it a lot more than we did. They just outplayed and outhustled us."

Shylar O'Bear led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 23 points including three 3-pointers. Alaina Williams added 11, Brooklyn Falcon nine, Skylar O'Bear nine, Jenkins four and Blessing Franklin three.

Jordynn Brown led Ascension Catholic (14-12, 7-2) with 21 points. Rae'shaun Melancon added 16 including two 3-pointers, while Daija Harvey had 12, Kyra Jones seven, Meagan Brooks five and Natalie Landry and Lauren Landry each three.

Skylar O'Bear's baseline drive gave White Castle their only lead in the second half as Ascension Catholic used a 16-6 run to close out the third quarter.

Melancon nailed two 3-pointers and fed Brown off an inbounds pass to build the lead. O'Bear converted a pull up jumper just after time expired leaving the score 41-32 going into the fourth quarter.

Franklin's 3-pointer from the right corner cut the deficit to 58-50 but Jones answered from the left corner. Melancon's trey from the right wing opened the frame before Williams' three-point play but Ascension Catholic followed with consecutive and ones.

Shylar O'Bear's layup off a steal cut it to 54-45 following Skylar O'Bear's lane drive and Williams' putback but Jones answered with a transition bucket.

Landry reflected the final tally after Shylar O'Bear pulled up twice in transition and nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing to cut it to 63-57.

Shylar O'Bear led White Castle with 17 points against West St. John. Skylar O'Bear added 11, Williams and Franklin each five and Falcon and Jenkins four.
