Top 10 high school boys basketball teams in Alexandria area for week of Jan. 17

Here are the top 10 high school boys basketball teams in Central Louisiana for the week of Jan. 17.

1. Natchitoches Central (14-3): Justin Aaron’s 22-point performance against Haughton capped a week where the Chiefs ascended to the No. 1 spot. LAST WEEK: No. 2.

2. ASH (18-3): The Trojans dropped their District 2-5A opener to West Monroe, but regrouped as Noah Jonker had 25 points and 13 rebounds against North Central. LAST WEEK: No. 1.

3. Lakeview (20-2): In the Gators’ 78-64 win over Homer, they outrebounded the Pelicans 53-29 as Javonte Howard scored 14 points and made three 3-pointers. LAST WEEK: No. 3.

4. Peabody (16-4): The Warhorses also defeated North Central last week as Kevin Jones had 26 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. LAST WEEK: No. 4.

5. Anacoco (20-10): Emanuel Luzardo averaged 12 points last week to help Anacoco go 2-1 – picking up wins over Elizabeth and Fairview in district play. LAST WEEK: No. 5.

6. Northwood (13-6): Omarion Layssard scored 24 points on 8-for-11 shooting in a 60-50 win over St. Mary’s. LAST WEEK: No. 7.

7. Many (8-4): The Tigers drop to No. 7 after losing to Rapides, but JaWarren Cade helped them break even for the week after 30 points in a win over Florien. LAST WEEK: No. 6.

8. Simpson (16-6): Brayden Cutts averaged 19 points as the Broncos kicked off District 3-C play with wins against Pleasant Hill and Ebarb. LAST WEEK: No. 8.

9. Calvin (21-1): The Cougars are the new No. 1 team atop the Class C power rankings after coasting to wins over Quitman and Central-Jonesville. LAST WEEK: No. 10.

10. Winnfield (15-3): The Tigers replace Hornbeck in the rankings after their 94-54 win over Jena. LAST WEEK: Not ranked.
