High school teams begin fall practice

PLAQUEMINE - Monday was the first official practice day for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s fall sports teams.

Football, cross country, volleyball and swimming teams began preparation for their upcoming seasons.

Football teams first practice in full pads is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 15 and one scrimmage is allowed during the week of Aug. 19-24.

As of Aug. 13, Plaquemine was the only area school approved to host a jamboree. Jamborees are scheduled for Aug. 29-31 throughout the state.

The first regular season contest must be played between Sept. 5-7.

Plaquemine opens the season at East Ascension Sept. 6, while White Castle hosts Morgan City Sept. 6.

Both St. John and East Iberville open the season on the road Sept. 6 at Brusly and Pointe Coupee Central, respectively.
