PHS' Deggs, WCHS' Lang, Coleman, Jones selected to play in Red Stick Bowl

BATON ROUGE - Players were scheduled to report to Denham Springs High School on Sunday afternoon to begin preparations for the 11th Annual U.S. Army Red Stick Bowl all-star football game.

Area seniors selected to participate in the game include Plaquemine's Hakeem Deggs and White Castle's Tyrie Lang, Marcellis Coleman and Curtis Jones.

The annual game that features top senior players from the metro Baton Rouge area is set for Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2:30 p.m. at Yellow Jacket Stadium.

Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. and cost of tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.

St. Amant's David Oliver will serve as head coach for the Black Knights, while Port Allen's Guy Blanchard will coach the Rough Riders.

Both teams began practice at 4 p.m. Monday at BREC's Independence Park after a reporting for team meetings Sunday.

Three days of practices will be held at Independence Park. A pre-game walk through is set for Thursday at Denham Springs.
