Plaquemine places eight on All-District 6-4A first team

Plaquemine overcame a slow start to win six games in a row and capture runners-up in District 6-4A play before falling to regionalist Breaux Bridge in the first round of the playoffs.

The Green Devils finished 6-5 overall and 5-1 in district play under first-year coach Paul Distefano placing eight players on the All-District first-team selected by coaches recently.

Earning first-team honors for Plaquemine were senior Hakeem Deggs at running back, defensive back and punt returner, senior Myron Jack as utility player, senior Jaquale Smith at linebacker, senior Jaron Hooks on the defensive line, senior Walter Scott on the offensive line and junior Davon Godchaux on the defensive line.

Selected to the second-team from Plaquemine were Jack at defensive back and running back, senior Julius Maracalin at running back, senior Jared Tackno on the defensive line, senior Alexandros Koulpasis at kicker, junior Khalil Harris at tight end, junior Damarcus Jenkins on the offensive line, sophomore Kevin Dotson on the offensive line and sophomore Colin Hughes at defensive back.

Honorable mention selections were seniors Rickey Aro and Joseph Jordan and junior Orlando Batiste.

District champion Lutcher took top honors. The Bulldogs' coaching staff under Tim Detillier was selected Coach of the Year, Ruston Matherne was chosen Offensive MVP and Blake Roussel was picked as Defensive MVP.

Deggs accumulated 2,156 all-purpose yards this season rushing for 1,056 yards and 12 touchdowns on 110 carries and catching 28 passes for 486 yards and four scores. He also registered 23 tackles, four interceptions, five fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and 10 pass breakups.

Jack rushed for 565 yards and four touchdowns on 32 attempts and had 12 receptions for 168 yards and one touchdown. He also registered 33 tackles, three FR, two sacks, one interception, one FF and six PBU.

Godchaux had a team-high 45 tackles including 9.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss to go with one FF and PBU. Hooks had 32 tackles including four sacks and 10 TFL to go with two FR and one FF.

Smith registered 30 tackles including two sacks and six TFL to go with two FR, one interception, three FF and one PBU.

Maracalin rushed for 751 yards and seven touchdowns on 102 attempts in only six games. Tackno registered 33 tackles including five sacks and 15 TFL and Harris had 22 tackles including 1.5 sacks and five TFL.

Aro rushed for 688 yards and 13 touchdowns on 78 attempts and threw for 750 yards and four touchdowns. Jordan had two interceptions and five PBU s and Batiste registered 36 tackles including 1.5 sacks and three TFL to go with two interceptions and one FR.
