Brusly, Port Allen strong in 3A

Both Brusly and Port Allen advanced to the Class 3A regionals last season.
The Panthers finished the season 9-4 overall and were 4-1 in district play.
Brusly defeated E.D. White 35-12 in the first round before falling to eventual champion Parkview Baptist 32-28 in the second round.
The Pelicans also finished the season 9-4 and were 3-2 in district play.
Port Allen upset McMain 22-14 in the first round before falling to Livonia 30-22 in the second round.
The Panthers and Pelicans move into a new district this year with the likes of Parkview Baptist, University Lab, West Feliciana, Baker and Glen Oaks. Gone are St. Charles Catholic, St. James Donaldsonville and E.D. White.
Both teams will also be without their star player from a year ago as both Brusly's Jay Christophe and Port Allen's Darien Claiborne have moved on.
The Panthers open the season hosting rival St. John before traveling to rival 4A Plaquemine and Belle Chasse. Brusly also hosts 4A quarterfinalist Vandebilt Catholic in the middle of district play.
The Pelicans hosts 3A Avoyelles to open the season before traveling to Redemptorist and hosting 3A semifinalist Livonia.
Brusly and Port Allen meet in District 7-3A play on Oct. 11 in Week 6.
