PLAQUEMINE - Professionally produced radio play-by-play high school broadcasts are coming to Plaquemine.

For the first time ever, the two area high schools will have a combined slate of football games carried on the radio.

Plaquemine and St. John will have a combined 11 regular season games, plus playoff games broadcast on WPFC, 1550AM, Baton Rouge and on the internet at JonFineProductions.com.

The first broadcast is Friday, September 6, when St. John visits Brusly. All broadcasts start at 6 p.m.

The prospective broadcasting schedule includes Brusly at Plaquemine Sept. 13, Woodlawn at Plaquemine Sept. 20, St. John at North Vermilion Sept. 27, Plaquemine at Southern Lab Oct. 3, St. John at Erath Oct. 4, St. John at Ascension Catholic Oct. 11, White Castle at St. John Oct. 18, Plaquemine at Lutcher Oct. 25, St. Michael at Plaquemine Nov. 1 and Plaquemine at Tara Nov. 8.

Game broadcast schedule is subject to change.

The broadcast team for these games are JB Barker and Brian (Baco) Romero.  Barker, in his inimitable style, has been a popular P.A. announcer for both high schools in year’s past.  Romero is a former standout St. John football player.

Jon Fine Productions will be producing these broadcasts. Fine has been a Baton Rouge area sportscaster/producer for close to 25 years. His company has produced Denham Springs Football broadcasts the last 19 years, with Fine on play-by-play for the last decade. He also presently co-hosts and produces the Denham Springs oriented “The Dru Nettles Show” on Cox4.

Fine previously produced Plaquemine Sports Weekly, a one-hour weekly radio show co-hosted by Tut Musemeche and Denny Wright.

As a Baton Rouge radio sports-talk host, he received calls from many Plaquemine residents, including the ubiquitous Mike from Plaquemine and the late Duane “Hey, Hey, Hey” Alleman.

The Barker’s Pharmacy Pre-Game Show will start one hour before kickoff.  It will include an interview with the head coach of the school whose game is being aired that night. In addition, there will be an interview with a local sports figure.

The Farm Bureau Insurance Half-Time Report will include an interview with another local sports personality. The Scott & Cassidy Russo NY Life Post-Game Show should also feature an interview with the home-town coach.

All programs will include analysis and insights provided by announcers Barker and Romero and each week, a Dow Chemical Player of The Game will be awarded to a player from St. John or Plaquemine.
