LABARRE - Pointe Coupee Central High School scored at will in a lopsided 64-0 season opening victory over East Iberville on Friday night in Pointe Coupee Parish.

The Cougars (1-0), ranked No. 10 in the first LSWA Class 1A poll, rushed for 216 yards while limiting the 1A Tigers (0-1), under coach John Young, to minus-54 yards.

Pointe Coupee Central had five players score in coach Cleotha Johnigan Jr.’s first victory. Cougar quarterback Altonio Johnson completed 5-of-7 passes for 109 yards and three touchdowns and Rao’ Quan Powell returned two punts for touchdowns for Pointe Coupee Central.

Gary Bowser finished with 84 yards on four carries and Ernest Lemay added 74 yards on four totes while also catching a 45-yard touchdown pass. Backup quarterback Kensley Cotton also ran 47 yards for a touchdown.

Steven Guidry returned an interception of Tiger quarterback Junius Chong 52-yards for a touchdown and Kevante Bellazin led the Cougar defense with four tackles for loss and three sacks.

The Tigers  host Christian Life on Friday night in their home opener in St. Gabriel.
