Episcopal's quick start too much for Eagles

PLAQUEMINE - Episcopal scored on their first two possessions and never looked back on the way to a 36-16 non-district victory over St. John on Friday night at COPAC.

The Eagles (0-2), under coach Oliver "Crickett" Crockett were outgained in total yardage 259-193. The game was postponed after it started roughly an hour due to a weather delay.

Spencer Klienpeter scored three touchdowns for Episcopal (2-0). Knight quarterback Jason Roussell completed 11-of-15 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

Ben Poirrier and Gavin Primeaux each scored touchdowns for St. John. Eagle quarterback Hunter Schnebelen completed 5-of-15 passes for 68 yards.

James Davis capped the Knights' opening 8-play, 45-yard drive with a 6-yard run. T.J. Wisham ran in the conversion to put Episcopal ahead 8-0 with 7:54 left in the first quarter.

Klienpeter's 17-yard touchdown run followed by Auston Couvillion's point after touchdown kick made it 15-0 before the delay.

Roussell's 51-yard touchdown completion to Kleinpeter and Couvillion's kick made it 22-0 still in the first quarter.

Clements Mubungirwa' 34-yard run and Couvillion's kick pushed the lead to 29-0 in the second quarter.

Tyler St. Germain's 31-yard field goal put St. John on the board but Episcopal answered before halftime with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Roussell to Klienpeter.

Poirrier's 1-yard run and Primeaux's 5-yard run for touchdowns came in the third quater.. St. Germain's point after touchdown kick reflected the final tally.

St. John hosts Dunham next week at COPAC.
