Dunham holds off St. John

PLAQUEMINE  - Dunham High School raced out to a early lead but had to hold off St. John for a 36-21 non-district victory on Friday night at COPAC.

The Eagles (0-3), under coach Oliver "Crickett" Crockett, gave up 317 yards passing dispite accumulating nearly 300 yards of offense, including rushing for 191.

Eagle quarterback Hunter Schnebelen completed 7-of-12 passes for 105 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for a 50-yard touchdown.

Benjamin Poirrier added a rushing touchdown and Princeton Young had a receiving touchdown.

Tiger quarterback Jyron Walker only completed 15-of-24 passes but had four scoring strikes, including two to Drake Davis.

Davis' 54-yard reception and Caleb Porter's 25-yard field goal put Dunham ahead 10-0 in the first quarter.

Poirrier's 6-yard touchdown run and Tyler St. Germain's 25-yard field goal cut it to 10-9 but Walker hit Davis again from 63 yards to make it 16-9 at the half.

Chase Day and Josh Ellis each caught touchdown receptions from Walker to open the second half before Schenebelen's run and 14-yard touchdown completion to Young cut it to 30-21.

Kirk Wilson's 4-yard run reflected the final tally for Dunham.

The Eagles travel to North Vermilion for a non-district game on Friday night.
