No. 4 West St. John too much for Eagles

EDGARD – St. John the Evangelist High School held on to a three-point lead through the first quarter before West St. John erupted for eight straight touchdowns in a 56-10 District 8-1A victory on Friday night at Rudolph G. Dinvaut Stadium.
The Eagles (2-7, 2-2), under coach Oliver "Crickett" Crockett, were outgained in total yardage 481-189. The Rams (7-2, 4-0) rushed for 304 yards in the victory.
Ram quarterback Austin Howard completed 13-of-16 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns while adding two rushing scores. Jeremy Jackson rushed for a touchdown and had a reception for another.
St. John took the early lead on a 33-yard field goal by Tyler St. Germain and held the lead through the first quarter.
Howard scored on runs from 2 and 6 yards out to open the second quarter and added touchdown passes to Jackson and Morell Bartholomew from 33 and 21 yards out as West St. John took a 28-3 halftime lead.
Howard's 24-yard touchdown pass to Heath Miller put the Rams ahead 49-3 still in the third quarter after Bradley Borne's 5-yard run to pay dirt and Jackson's 15-yard scamper into the end zone.
Gavin Landry caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Rene Ledet and St. Germain's point after touchdown kick reflected the final tally in the fourth quarter following Lamon Boudoin's 4-yard score.
The Eagles, No. 22 in the latest unofficial power rankings released by the LHSAA for select 1A schools, wrap up the regular season with another 8-1A matchup against Ascension Christian (2-7, 1-2) at the City of Plaquemine Activity Center on Friday night.
