Plaquemine High's Green Devils start 2018 season 1-0 after 42-20 win over East St. John

The Plaquemine High Green Devils got off to a great start for the season after traveling to Reserve to earn a whopping 42-20 win over East St. John’s Wildcats last Friday.

The Green Devils’ offense was led by an outstanding showing by running back Melvin McClay who gained 220 yards, earning three touchdowns in the process, although one of his scores was through the air.

Plaquemine completely overpowered the season-opening opponent, holding the Wildcats scoreless until halftime, when the score was 28-0.

Quarterback Herb Thomas threw 51 yards’ worth of passing, going 7 of 8 and adding two TDs to the Devils’ score.

The Plaquemine High Green Devils domination really shows itself in the game’s final stats. The boys in green and white picked up 416 yards in offense while holding the Wildcats to 280.

East St. John’s only advantage was in the passing game, where they picked up 213 yards to Plaquemine High’s 51, but the Green Devils crushed the Wildcats on the ground by a margin of 365 yards to 67 for their hosts.

Plaquemine High will play its first home game this Friday against the Port Allen Pelicans. Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m.
