Plaquemine High Green Devils put on an offensive show in 42-12 demolition of Port Allen Pelicans

Plaquemine High dominated every facet of its win over Port Allen last Friday, putting up 42 points to the Pelicans’ 12 to improve the Green Devil record to 2-0.

The Port Allen Pelicans began last Friday’s game dismally, chalking up two muffed snaps in its first set of downs on the way to a sound thrashing by the Plaquemine Green Devils.
The first one was recovered by the Pelicans but the second bad snap sailed over the quarterbacks head and through the end zone for a safety, putting the Green Devils on the board before their offense even hit the field.
Plaquemine High scored another touchdowns in the first quarter on a Melvin McClay run, which was answered by a Port Allen High TD later in the quarter. The extra point attempts for both teams were unsuccessful and the first quarter ended with a 9-7 margin with the Green Devils in the lead.
The team had a scoring blitz in the second quarter with three touchdowns, all capped with successful PATs by Shiban Alheiidari to add 21 points to the Green Devil score, while the Pelicans went scoreless in the quarter, leaving a lopsided halftime score of 30-6, Plaquemine High leading.
The third quarter was quiet by comparison with the Green Devils posting just one touchdown but Alheiidari missed the PAT to leave the score at 36-6.
Plaquemine High widened their lead in the fourth quarter with another touchdown via its running game, answered by what was Port Allen’s biggest play of the night, a 50-yard dash to the end zone to drive the final score to 42-12 after a failed 2-point conversion by the Pelicans.
Green Devil quarterback Herb Thomas completed 6 of 10 attempts for 112 yards and a touchdown.
The was led in its rushing attack by Melvin McClay with 92 yards and a touchdown, trailed closely by Thomas, who added to his offense with 82 yards on the ground and a TD and Thailon Favroth with 54 yards.
Plaquemine High’s top receivers were Dallas Ropati with 60 yards and Dontayvion Wicks with 44. Davonte Russ only had one reception but he made it count – an 8-yard touchdown reception.
The Green Devils will travel across the swamp to Lafayette to face St. Thomas More’s Cougars in a battle between undefeated teams.
