Green Devil star running back Melvin McClay returns a kick during action earlier this season. McClay’s lone score in last Friday’s game was a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter.

The Green Devils of Plaquemine High led briefly at the beginning of last Friday night’s game, 7-0, but the lead was brief, answered by Ouachita Parish before the end of the quarter on the Lions way to a 42-14 win over PHS at home.

Hebert Thomas put those first points on the board for the Green Devils on a 1-yard burst, topped with a point after kick from Shibain Alheiidari, to put Plaquemine High in lead for the only time the Green Devils would hold the top spot.

The second Plaquemine Green Devil touchdown didn’t come until the third quarter when key running back Melvin McClay dashed a carry into the end zone from two yards out. Again, Alheiidari tacked on the PAT.

Ouachita Parish’s offense was overwhelming and scored seven points in the first quarter, seven more in the second quarter and 14 in both the third and fourth quarters, much to the dismay of the Green Devil defense.

Final statistics from the game show the lopsided nature of the game.

The Green Devils picked up 215 yards on the ground with 42 carries, while Ouachita Parish racked up 329 yards rushing with 38 carries.

The passing game is the only stat Plaquemine High managed to stay competitive with Ouachita, picking up 78 yards to Ouachita Parish’s 75.

The Plaquemine High Green Devils will carry their 3-2 to Baton Rouge to take on Tara High’s Trojans Friday night. The Trojans will bring to the field a dismal 1-5 record. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
