St. John Eagles take a 69-19 hit from Southern Lab in last Thursday's game

St. John's Eagles struggled in last week's 69-19 loss to Southern Lab. The loss drops the Eagl3es' record to 3-3.

Despite a St. John Eagle offense that is breaking records every week it seems, the Southern Lab Kittens were anything but soft, cute and cuddly in their 69-19 romp last Thursday night.

With the loss, the Eagles slip to 3-3, despite a promising 2-0 season start. St. John hopes to improve with this week’s matchup against White Castle High in an away game this Friday night. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Southern Lab came to Plaquemine ready for bear and its potent offense scored time after time on the way to the big win. The Kittens put up 35 points in the first half on the way to the big win.

On the other side of the ball, St. John was held to a mere 19 points, a far cry from what the Eagle offense is capable of posting.

Wide receiver Justin Rivet and quarterback Adam Blanchard still managed to put up some big numbers, just not big enough to pull off the win.

Rivet pulled in seven receptions for 167 points and a touchdown and on defense, was credited with three tackles. He continues to break all-time school records and now holds the one for most receiving yards in a season with 732, breaking a decades old record set by George Calcagno in 1974.

The prolific receiver has also broken the school’s record for receiving touchdowns with 10, breaking Chase Blanchard’s nine receiving touchdowns in 2004.
