Plaquemine powers past Istrouma for district title

It takes a total team effort to bring out the best in a program, and it paid off in a big way for Plaquemine.

The Green Devils emerged the District 7-4A champion after a 52-27 win at Istrouma on Friday, Nov. 6.

Junior running back Kobe Major ran for 148 yards on 25 carries and had one touchdown to propel the Green Devil victory.

Major remained a dominant force for the Green Devils, but he was far from alone Friday. Rickey Green, who finished with 124 yards and 13 carries, scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter, while Edouard Parker took a Devin Butler pass 10 yards for a touchdown. Istrouma scored in the first stanza on Yaman Jackson’s 35-yuard pass from LeKendrick Self, but Plaquemine held a 21-7 lead at the end of the quarter.

Defense joined in the show in the second quarter when Colbi Dennis took an interception 36 yards to the end zone. Shihban Alhedari, meanwhile, tacked on three points of a 31-yard field goal.

PHS led 31-13 at the half.

The Green Devil onslaught also included a 9-yard scamper by Mike Mitchell and a Butler 18-yard sprint in the third quarter.

Devan Luke’s 3-yard run capped PHS scoring. Luke tallied 124 yards off 13 carries.

The Green Devils (5-2) travel Friday, Nov. 13 to Baton Rouge for action against winless Broadmoor.
