In their words: Lee's Anquin Barnes, Reginald Davis on why they picked Alabama football, FAU

Special to The Advertiser

Early signing day brought college commitments and young athletes deciding their futures.

Two of the premier football players at Robert E. Lee High broke down their decisions to sign for The Montgomery Advertiser.

Anquin Barnes is a three-star defensive tackle per 247Sports. Barnes, 6-5, 299-pounds, is coming off an appearance in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game

Reginald Davis totaled 2,528 all-purpose yards for the Generals in 11 games. The three-star running back had 13 rushing touchdowns and 19 total scores.

Their decisions in their own words:

Anquin Barnes, Alabama

I chose the University of Alabama because it feels like the best place for me. Every time I visit campus I feel cared about like I'm family. Family is very important to me. I want to play where I feel like I'm at home and comfortable. Even though Montgomery isn't far, and I'll likely get to see my immediate family often, it'll still be nice to have that family atmosphere daily.

Alabama is a good fit for me because they have proven to be good at developing players physically, mentally and personally. A dream of mine is to make it to the league (NFL) and I believe Alabama can best help get me there. Competing with the best talent every day will help myself and team reach our goals. We always have a top recruiting class and good coaches. I want to play with the best and win and championships.

Alabama All-Stars' Anquin Barnes (93) of Lee celebrates after sacking Mississippi All-Stars' Chandler Pittman (7) of Magee at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020. Alabama All-Stars defeated Mississippi All-Stars 19-7.

Reginald Davis, FAU

My name is Reginald Davis, but I'm well known as Reggie. Today I am here to tell you about why I chose Florida Atlantic University. I chose FAU because I was always taught "love is what love does." Through this whole recruiting process it has been nothing but love. There are so many reasons why I chose FAU. One of the reasons is Florida is my second home. That's where my mother is from and I love the weather there.

Lee's Reginald Davis (22) runs the ball at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday, Nov. 13, 2020. Saraland defeats Lee 31-0.

Another reason is from the day I got this offer until today, I get phone calls from my coaches, no matter what side of the ball (they coach), offense or defense. They call to check up on me and my family. Before I committed to Florida Atlantic, they used to call my Mom and Dad once or twice a week. Another reason I chose FAU is because they were on my side before this amazing season God help me have. They never gave up on having a chance to get me to become a part of their program.

Also, I watch how their motto - Band.Of.Brothers, B.O.B. - really means something to their players. Who wouldn't want to be a part of a program that has the mentality that we are brothers on and off the field? And that's the reason why I chose FAU. GO OWLS!
