Huntington’s Kamron Evans secured enough votes this week to win the Times online poll for Football Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission.

A standout senior quarterback for the Raiders, Evans becomes the first Huntington football winner of the 2021-22 school year.  He joins Aiden Colvin of Benton and Braylon Finney of Captain Shreve as winners in the weekly poll.

Evans and his supporters totaled 19,717 votes, a solid 51% of the 38,376 votes cast in the weekly online recognition. Those numbers allowed Evans to top a field of nine additional candidates, including second-place Carlos Butler, who totaled an impressive 16,544 votes (43%).

Evans will receive a backpack, a boxed lunch combo and some additional swag courtesy of Raising Cane’s.

Evans passed for 404 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for another score last Friday as the Raiders defeated Parkway 38-31. He has completed 54 of 86 passes for 709 yards and eight touchdowns so far this fall.

“Kam is primed to be the next great quarterback to come through Huntington,” Raiders coach Steve Dennis said.
