Green Devils await 7-4A leader Liberty

Staff Report
Tyris Pierre (11), Parker Jackson (29) and Jaedan Paul (24) halt Broadmoor on a carry in the Green Devil 54-6 win against the hosting Buccaneers on Oct. 15.

The Plaquemine Green Devils aim to continue their two-game win streak in District 7-4A football, but they must go through a much tougher foe to achieve that third win.

The Green Devils (2-4, 2-2) await Liberty Magnet School (6-0, 4-0) for district fare Friday night at Andrew Canova Green Devil Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

PHS awaits the Patriots on the heels of a 54-6 rout in Baton Rouge against the struggling Broadmoor Buccaneers, who remain winless after six games.

The Green Devils coasted to a 47-0 lead with 7:30 left in the second quarter, which sent freshmen players to the field after the half.

Rickey Green led PHS with two touchdowns, while Mike Mitchell, Kobe Major and Jakori Richard each notched one.

Antoine Pierce scored on a fumble recovery, while freshman Tyrice Bosbye scored the final TD for Plaquemine.

Liberty comes to Plaquemine following a 21-14 win over fellow district contender St. Michael. One week earlier, the Patriots notched a 34-27 win over Istrouma, another fledgling 7-4A squad.

Leaders for the Patriots include junior Khylan Gross, junior wide receiver Richard McKneeely, junior running back Kaleb Jackson and junior running back Jared Gremillion.
