Plaquemine stays unbeaten after 52-0 rout over Broadmoor

BATON ROUGE -- Week 8 football action brought Plaquemine what has become business as usual – at least for now.

The Green Devils remained undefeated after they rolled over the young Broadmoor Buccaneers for a 52-0 win in District 6-4A action last Friday.

“We played well Friday night, but we have some mistakes we need to clean up before the playoff stretch gets here,” first-year head coach Drey Troxclair said.

Tyrse Mosby took a pass from quarterback Michael Mitchell for a touchdown in action against Broadmoor last week.

Against Broadmoor (2-6), Plaquemine set the pace for a blowout in the first quarter when Shermar Carter raced 85 yards for a kick return touchdown and teammate Diego Davis scampered 42 yards to the end zone on an interception return. Devin Lanieu ran a two-point conversion on the Carter TD, but the Green Devils came up short on conversion after the second score.

The focus then shifted to senior quarterback Michael Mitchell, who connected with J’kolby McCoy on a 17-yard TD and lobbed a 5-yard scoring pass to Tyrese Mosby. Dawson ran for a two-point conversion on the McCoy TD.

McCoy took two passes for 72 yards, while Mitchell’s keeper after Mosby’s scoring reception put the Green Devils ahead 30-0.

Plaquemine led 44-0 after Dajon Beloney’s 70-yard punt return TD and Mosby’s 3-yard sneak. Lanieu punched in the conversion on the Beloney TD, while the Green Devils missed the two-point conversion on the touchdown.

The Green Devils capped game scoring in the third stanza when Mitchell hurled a 5-yard TD pass to Aiden Joseph.

Buccaneer senior wide receiver Christopher Morgan’s 24-yard run voided a Green Devil shutout.

Mitchell completed 7 of 14 passes for 113 yards and carried twice for 51 yards. Dawson ran seven times for 51 yards, while Lanieu had three carries for 26 yards. Jayden Christophe grabbed two passes for 28 yards. Competition gets tougher next week when the Green Devils travel to Ferriday, a squad that won the Class 2A title two years ago. Plaquemine will return to its homefield Nov. 4 for their biggest game of the season when the Green Devils host West Feliciana (9-0), which was the top-seeded Division II team in state power rankings, as of Monday.
