PLAQUEMINE – Plaquemine High School overcame an early deficit and late charge by St. Michael the Archangel to claim a 9-5 District 6-4A victory at Lady Green Devil Park on Monday evening and remain in sole possession of first-place in league standings.

The Lady Green Devils (14-7, 4-0), under coach Mary Gaye David, also defeated Tara 15-0 and Broadmoor 21-0 last week. Plaquemine travels to Lutcher Thursday after going to Runnels Wednesday and will go to Assumption Tuesday.

"It has been about a week since we have had some good competition and we just had a lot for rust we had to knock off," David said. "Hopefully, we got it off and we are going to keep rolling from here on out.

"It was a very good outing. I think we lost a little bit of our focus there in the last inning but we did what it took to get it done and that is all that matters. At the end of the day, we got a W."

Mallory Perrault got the win in the circle for Plaquemine striking out four over seven innings and walking one. Perrault also was 1-3 with a run and stolen base.

Kaitlyn Delaune was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Devils with two doubles and four runs and RBIs. Amber Smith was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs and Karli David was 1-for-2 with a run, RBI and stolen base.

Chandler Simpson, Gabby Bourgoyne and Brianna Albert each scored runs for Plaquemine.

Haylie Smith took the loss for St. Michael (12-11, 2-4) walking eight over seven innings.

Amanda Berdon was 3-for-4 with two doubles and RBIs, while Hannah Gregoire was 3-for-4 and Sydney Copeland 2-for-4.

Delaune's two-run double to the left gap was followed by David's liner through the right infield to put Plaquemine ahead 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth.

Delaune lined another two-run double through the center of the infield in the sixth after Simpson drew a walk and Perrault beat out a bunt. Smith dropped a hit to shallow center field to make it 9-2.

Berdon had a two-run double in the seventh for St. Michael. Copeland followed with an RBI-triple.

Copeland's RBI-double followed Berdon's triple to put the Lady Warriors ahead 1-0 in the first inning.

Lady Devil shortstop Mia Johnson snagged a liner and threw to first for the first of three Plaquemine double plays earlier in the inning.

Delaune and David drew consecutive walks in the bottom half and scored on Smith's groundout. Third baseman Delaune caught a popped up bunt and threw to first baseman David for another double play in the second.

Plaquemine added another run in the third when Delaune beat out a bunt but left the bases loaded. David turned a double play from Perrault to Delaune in the fourth.
