On the run: Lady Eagles roll over Ascension Christian in 8-1A play

PLAQUEMINE - St. John the Evangelist High School made quick work of Ascension Christian with a 15-0 mercy-rule District 8-1A victory on Tuesday afternoon at Lady Eagle Park.
The Lady Eagles (15-9, 6-1), under coach Cindy Prouty, also defeated East Iberville twice Thursday 18-2 and 17-1 before falling to Parkview Baptist 7-1 on Friday. St. John hosts White Castle Thursday before traveling to Assumption Monday. The Lady Eagles host Plaquemine in the Annual Pink Game April 11 at 5 p.m. with proceeds benefitting the Susan Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.
Kyndal Guillory earned the win over Ascension Christian striking out four over four innings while scattering two hits. She also was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and four RBIs.
McKenzie Richard was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases and Gracie Trahan was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs, one RBI and one stolen base.
Samantha Rivet (home run) and Cortlyn Theriot were each 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Alana Blanchard (triple, three runs, RBI, stolen base), Payton Passantino (double, three RBIs), Shelbi Strickland (run, RBI) and Brooklyn Pearce were each 1-for-3.
Monica Rivet scored two runs and Taylor Vince, Carlee Smith and Zoe Ordoyne each scored one run.
Ally Cambre took the loss for Ascension Christian. Randi Plaisance was 1-for-1 with a double.
Guillory struckout two in the first inning and Blanchard reached to lead off the bottom half. Trahan grounded through the center of the infield and Guillory lined to center to plate two runs. Richard lined to left but was left stranded.
Samantha Rivet lined a solo home run to center with one out in the second inning to push the lead to 3-0.
Plaisance’s one-out double came in the third. Maddy Mihhon beat out a grounder and Aleah Sanchez was hit by a pitch to load the bases but third baseman Richard registered the next two outs, the first on a throw home to catcher Passantino.
Trahan lined to center to lead off the bottom half and Guillory drew a one-out walk. Richard’s double to the left gap plated a run before two more crossed on pass balls to make it 6-0.
Pearce followed with a double to the right gap and pinch running Monica Rivet scored on Theriot’s bunt to make it 7-0.
Blanchard drew a lead off walk in the fourth inning and Trahan reached before Strickland’s single drove in a run.
Guillory followed with a double to the left gap to plate two more runs before Richard’s triple pushed the lead to 11-0.
Passantino then smashed a bases loaded three-run double after Theriot drew a walk and Rivet was hit by a pitch.
Trahan rolled a triple to the wall to reflect the final tally after Blanchard dropped another that rolled to the wall in the left gap.
