Lady Eagles hold off Ascension Catholic

DONALDSONVILLE – St. John the Evangelist High School scored four runs in the third inning and held off Ascension Catholic for a 7-4 District 8-1A victory and share of the league title.
The Lady Eagles (18-12, 9-1), under coach Cindy Prouty, also fell to Brusly 6-5 on Tuesday and wrapped up the regular season hosting Christian Life on Wednesday.
St. John out hit the Lady Bulldogs 9-6. Both teams each had three errors. The Lady Eagles added two runs in the fourth to go ahead 6-0 before the Lady Bulldogs posted three runs in the bottom half and one in the seventh.
Kyndal Guillory earned the win in the circle for St. John and McKenzie Richard had two hits and Gracie Trahan one RBI.
Julia Beck took the loss for Ascension Catholic (17-6, 9-1). Madeline Landry led the Lady Bulldog attack with two hits.
St. John was No. 10 in the latest unofficial Class 1A power ratings released by the LHSAA on Wednesday.
