St. John's Prouty, Strickland highlight 8-1A all-District softball team

PLAQUEMINE - St. John the Evangelist High School captured a share of the District 8-1A championship this season and returned the LHSAA Top 56 State Softball Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
The Lady Eagles finished the season 21-13 overall and were 9-1 in district play in coach Cynthia Prouty’s first year at the helm of the program. St. John fell to semifinalist Central Catholic of Morgan City in the quarterfinals.
White Castle finished with an overall record of 5-13 under coach Shelly Hudson and East Iberville was 3-12 overall.
Prouty was recently selected co-Coach of the Year with Ascension Catholic’s Brandi Hahn after their teams split two contests this season.
St. John senior shortstop Shelbi Strickland was also selected District Most Valuable Player.
Joining Strickland on the first team includes pitcher Kyndal Guillory, first baseman Brooklyn Pearce, third baseman Kortlyn Theriot, outfielder Gracie Trahan and utility player Samantha Rivet.
Earning second-team honors from St. John includes pitcher Monica Rivet, second baseman Kortlyn Theriot, outfielders Alana Blanchard and Carlee Smith and utility player Payton Passantino.
