St. John's girls earn a big win over E. Iberville's Lady Tigers

A no-hitter by Lady Eagle pitcher Samantha Landry played a huge role in St. John’s convincing 21-0 win over the East Iberville Lady Tigers Mar. 20.

As hot as Landry was on the mound, her teammates were just as hot at the plate, scoring 16 runs in the first inning.

The 16 runs came as a result of singles from Schnebelen, Sarah Grace LoBue and Alyse Wille, an error on a ball hit by Landry, Kelsey LeBlanc and Kaylee Sadden, hits backed by home runs by triples from Landry and another by Kynlee LeBlanc and home runs knocked over the fence by Madison Young and Elise Jackson.

Landry only needed three innings on the mound to earn the no-hitter – no hits, no runs – along with no walks and five strikeouts.

In all, the Lady Eagles tallied 18 hits in the game, led by Schnebelen and Landry with three hits apiece. Getting multiple hits in the runaway win were both of the LeBlanc girls and Jackson.

Lady Eagles lose ‘must-win’ game against Ascension Catholic to finish season as district runners-up

St. John’s girls lost a heart-stopping matchup against Ascension Catholic by a score of 4-3.

The game had been called a must-win, with the winner earning the district championship and the loser settling for runner-up.

The importance of the game was not lost on Coach Cindy Prouty who said before the Ascension Catholic game, “We’ve got to win that one.”

Tied at 2 at the beginning of the fifth inning, Ascension Catholic scored on a Lady Eagle error, and a late score sealed St. John’s fate.

“My girls competed well,” Prouty said. “we didn’t hit like we had been and that hurt us.”

An unexpected change by Ascension Catholic to a slower pitcher than the Lady Eagles were prepared for, “and my team never made necessary adjustments at the plate.”

“ACHS deserved the win and the championship because they made plays and got key hits,” Prouty continued. “It was a hard fought battle and we came up short.”

Axcension Catholic got on the scoreboard first with an RBI in the first and later, picked up a second to make the score 2-0.

The Lady Eagles tied the score in the fourth inning after an error allowed St. John a second run.

Earning the pitching loss was Samantha Landry, who allowed four runs and 11 hits in seven innings while striking out four.

Alyssa Callegen led the team at the plate with two, going for two of four of her at-bats.
