Lady Devils place second at regional meet

LAFAYETTE – Plaquemine High School's girls' track and field team placed second at the Region II, Class 4A track meet at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The Lady Green Devils, under coach Peter Villia, won two events, placed second in six and third in four to advance a total of 12 competitors to the LHSAA Class 4A State Track and Field Meet at LSU's Bernie Moore Track on Saturday.

Plaquemine scored 101 points behind St. Louis' 129. Northside was third with 65 followed by St. Michael the Archangel (57 ½) and St. Thomas More (51). The top four individual performers in each event advance to the state meet.

Tori Williams was a double winner for the Lady Devils claiming both the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.05 and 24.44, respectively.

The 400 and 800-meter relay teams consisting of Williams, Alissa Williams, Alessi Wiley and Myiesha Bell also placed second in 49.05 and 1:43.51.

Alissa Williams was second in the 100 crossing in 12.07 and third in the 200 with a time of 24.81.

Marissa Batiste placed second in the long jump clearing 17 feet, while Destiny Johnson was second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet and third in the triple jump clearing 33-7.

Jamira Russ placed second in the discus with a throw of 108.4 and Asia Nelson was third with a hurl of 104.09. Nariko Gillis placed third in the 800 finishing in 2:28.41.

On the boys' side, Hakeem Deggs placed third in the 200-meter dash finishing in 22.32.
