Bulldogs qualify six to state meet

LAFAYETTE – White Castle High School's boys' track and field team qualified for the state meet in six events at the Region II, Class 1A track meet at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
The Bulldogs, under coach Devyn Baker, advance to the LHSAA Class 1A State Track and Field Meet at LSU's Bernie Moore Track on Friday. The top four individual performers in each event advanced to the state meet.
Robert Franklin advanced in both the long jump and triple jump with qualifying marks of 22 feet and 43-02.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Franklin, Tyrie Lang, Jacory Jones, Moses Young, Chris Major and Dontrell Taylor also qualified with a time of 1:32.29.
Jones qualified in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.70 and Young qualified in the 400-meter run with a time of 54.65. Harold Zachary also advanced to state in the pole vault by clearing 9-6.
On the girls side, Skylar O'Bear qualified in the triple jump by clearing 34-4 ¾ along with the 400-meter relay team of O'Bear, Ashanti Knight, Ariel Bell, Shylar O'Bear and Kennesha Green with a time of 54.27.
East Iberville's boys and girls' squads had qualifiers in three events each.
Keionne Octave advanced in both the girls 100 and 400-meter dashes with times of 12.65 and 1:02.06, while Ja'Laycia Mills qualified in the shot put with a throw of 31-7 ½.
Braylon Dailey advanced in the boys' shot put with a hurl of 45-09 and Tony Westly qualified in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.59.
The 1,600-meter relay team of Westly, Jayden Reddit, Quantae Johnson, Lamont Kerr, Kris Grace and Frank Broussard also advanced with a time of 3:41.63.
St. John's Keri Yarbrough also advanced to the state meet in the girls' discus with a qualifying throw of 93-11.
