Lady Devils win Region II-4A meet

LAFAYETTE – Plaquemine  Senior High School won the girls’ team title at the LHSAA Class 4A Region II Track and Field Meet on Thursday at Northside High School.

The Lady Green Devils, under coach Peter Villia, scored 66.5 points for first place. Northside placed second with 64 points followed by St. Michael with 59.

Plaquemine’s boys team placed 17th with 4.33 points. Opelousas won the team title with 72 points followed by LaGrange and Northside.

The top three in each event advance to the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet Saturday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track and Field Stadium.

Aldrianna Dupree placed second in the girls’ 100 and 400-meter dashes in 12.62 and 59.46 and third in the 200-meter dash crossing in 26.22.

Nariko Gillis placed  second in the girls’ 1,600 meter run finishing in 5:56.21 and was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:35.05. Rachel Ellis was fifth in the 1,600 crossing in 6:17.05.

Plaquemine’s 4x400 meter girls relay team of Dupree, Gillis, Ellis and Jameshaulyn Fernandez won in 4:11.21.

Taejah Watkins won the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 35-5 and placed eighth in the long jump clearing 13-7 1/2.

Asia Nelson placed third in the girls’ discus with a throw of 102-2 and Jernasha Collins took fourth in the girls’ javelin with a throw of 105-7. Nelson was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 97-1.

Joe Pown placed sixth in the boys’ 800 meter run finishing in 2:09.72.

Drexel Brooks placed fifth in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles in 44.67 and Saudi Williams took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles crossing in 17.36 and the pole vault clearing 10-6.

Alessi Wiley placed sixth in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 33-6 and Allen Riley was seventh in the boys’ triple jump clearing 41-2.

Todd Harris placed eighth in the boys’ long jump clearing 19-4, while Austin Mitchell was ninth in the boys’ 400 meter dash crossing in 54.02 and Wayne Toussaint was 10th in the 100 finishing in 11.94.

Ryan Roberts was seventh in the 1,600 meter run finishing in 5:05.31.
