Lady Eagles fall to host Brusly in tourney championship

BATON ROUGE - St. John the Evangelist fell to host Brusly 25-19, 28-26 in the championship game of tournament play on Saturday.

The Lady Eagles (9-4) defeated Woodlawn 25-19, 25-23, Terrebonne 25-9, 25-21, Belaire 25-8, 25-12 and Baton Rouge High 25-17, 25-22 on Saturday to advance to the final.

St. John also defeated Port Allen 25-10, 25-4 in the Brusly Tournament on Thursday before defeating St. Charles Catholic 25-18, 25-11, 25-16 on Tuesday.

Victoria Weaver had five kills in the championship. Keri Yarbrough and Payton Passantino each added four kills, while Carlee Smith had eight digs and Alex Carbo seven.

Against Woodlawn, Yarbrough had seven kills, Weaver and Kaycee Keller each six kills and Smith 16 digs.

Emily Delahaye had eight kills and three blocks against Terrebonne, while Passantino had six kills and three digs, Weaver had five kills and seven digs and Smith 11 digs.

Weaver had eight kills against Belaire while Delahaye had six and Smith had eight digs.

Weaver had nine kills and four aces against Baton Rouge, while Passantino had seven kills and five digs, Delahaye five kills, Yarbrough four kills and two blocks, Keller four kills and Smith nine digs.  

Smith had 13 digs against Port Allen was selected to the All-Tournament team. Weaver added nine kills, while Keller had five, Delahaye four, Claire Pearce had 24 assists and four aces and Carbo had 12 digs.

Weaver had 11 kills against St. Charles, while Delahaye had seven and two blocks and Keller had six kills.
