PLAQUEMINE - St. John the Evangelist High School used a balanced attack to take early control and sweep parish rival White Castle 25-16, 25-13, 25-17 on Monday night in District 3-V play.

The Lady Eagles (18-7, 3-0) trailed only briefly in the third set as a total of seven players provided kills.

"We have been working on trying to distribute the ball to more people," St. John coach Chase Mancuso said. "If everybody can put it away consistently, then we are tough to stop and have a lot of options.

"I mixed up the rotation a little bit today and it worked out pretty good. In a game like this where you are in control, you want to be consistent and not give them an opportunity to make a play because they are so athletic."

Keri Yarbrough had six aces, six kills and one block for St. John. Victoria Weaver finished with eight kills, while Emily Delahaye had six kills and two blocks and Kaycee Keller added two kills and one block.

Claire Pearce provided 18 assists and four digs to go with three kills, while Payton Passantino had two kills and two aces. Defensively Carlee Smith and Alex Carbo had six and five digs, respectively.

Skylar O'Bear led White Castle (10-11, 1-2) with seven kills, 12 digs and five assists, while twin Shylar O'Bear provided 19 digs, 13 assists, five kills and three aces.

Ariel Bell added four kills, four digs and two blocks and Jakayla Washington finished with six digs and three kills.

"We played some young girls tonight," White Castle coach Tammy Pierce said. "It is kind of hard playing out of rotation to fight against a team like St. John with all their strong hitters. We knew it was going to be tough."

St. John jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first game on a 7-point serve from Yarbrough that featured three aces, Delahaye's block and Keller's kill.

A pair of aces by Shylar O'Bear cut it to 12-7 before Keller's block pushed the Lady Eagles' lead to 20-11. Madison Schnebelen's kill put St. John ahead 23-13.

Yarbrough and Weaver's kills gave St. John an early 3-0 lead in the second game before Skylar O'Bear answered with a kill and ace but again the Lady Eagles took control on Yarbrough's serve to go ahead 10-2.

"She's got good movement on the ball, so when she can put it away, it's a big plus for us," Mancuso said.

White Castle cut the deficit to 14-12 behind Skylar O'Bear's kill and dink but St. John used an 11-1 run to close out the game on Yarbrough's block following Weaver's kill.

Shylar O'Bear's ace gave the Lady Bulldogs an early 7-4 lead in the third game but Passantino's kill put St. John ahead for good following Smith's ace before a trio of kills from Yarbrough made it 13-8.

Kyndal Guillory's ace pushed the lead to 22-15 following kills from Weaver and Delahaye.
