No. 5 West St. John rolls over Tigers

ST. GABRIEL – West St. John jumped out to a 34-point halftime lead and cruised to a 48-0 District 8-1A victory over East Iberville on Friday night.

The Rams (5-2, 2-0), ranked No. 5 in the Louisiana Sportswriter Association Class 1A poll, outgained the Tigers (0-7, 0-2), under coach John Young, in total yardage 380-53 with 240 of it coming on the ground.

Ram quarterback Austin Howard threw three touchdown pass and added another rushing touchdown. Jeremy Jackson rushed for two touchdowns.

Howard completed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Laterrence Mitchell to crack the scoreboard in the first quarter. Anfrense Lumar's point after touchdown kick made it 7-0.

Jackson followed with consecutive 60-yard runs still in the first quarter as West St. John jumped out to a 20-0 lead.

Howard connected with Keith Miller for an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter before Miller returned a punt 35-yards for a touchdown before halftime.

Howard added another touchdown in the third quarter with a 35-yard pass to Jamoine Green and his 5-yard touchdown run reflected the final tally in the fourth quarter.

East Iberville travels to St. John on Friday night for another District 8-1A matchup at COPAC.
