Ourso signs with Sioux City

PLAQUEMINE – Clint Ourso, a former St. John and Southern standout, recently signed a baseball contract with the Sioux City Explorers out of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
"I am excited," Ourso said. "Everyone around here has shown a lot of support and it fills good to have another opportunity. Hopefully, I can go up there, play well and maybe get picked up by an affiliated team."
Ourso starred at St. John in both baseball and football helping the Eagles advance to the Class 1A state championship in football in 2006.
The catcher signed with LSU-Eunice out of high school where he played for one year before transferring to UNO. After the university dropped its Division I program, Ourso moved to Southern for his final two years.
"I caught every game except one my senior year," Ourso said.
Despite not being selected in the MLB Draft, Ourso continued to train and went to a tryout in Houston recently where he was picked up.
"I have been putting a lot of time in just waiting on a tryout and hoping I could get a shot somewhere," Ourso said. "An opportunity came up and I performed well enough so I am going to take full advantage of it."
