Q: Greg, I like your old-car columns and wonder if you could tell us which cars you've owned in your time. Also, do you currently own any collector cars yourself? Thanks, Fran S., e-mail from Pennsylvania.

A: Fran, the short answer is yes ... and I guess I've owned quite a few.  Here we go in order of owning them, starting in 1967 with "Cars I Owned:" ‘63 Chevy Impala, ‘67 Plymouth GTX 440, ‘62 Plymouth Savoy, ‘51 Buick Special, ‘65 GTO Tri-Power Convertible, ‘68 Volkswagen Beetle, ‘68 Camaro SS/RS 396-375, ‘73 Dodge Pickup, ‘72 Vega GT, ‘74 AMC Hornet X, ‘76 Gremlin X, ‘76 Matador, ‘57 Chevy Nomad, ‘72 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, ‘75 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, ‘73 Dodge Club Cab pickup, ‘76 Malibu Wagon, ‘83 Buick Park Avenue, ‘86 Dodge Van 8-passenger, ‘72 Dodge Challenger, ‘89 Pontiac Bonneville, ‘94 Chrysler LHS, ‘94 Pontiac Trans-Am, ‘96 Dodge Grand Caravan, ‘99 Pontiac Grand Am, ‘08 Pontiac G6, ‘98 Camaro Z28 and finally, a ‘59 Edsel Ranger I recently purchased.

That's 28 cars in 44 years, although many were owned at the same time. Cars that survived to this day are the ‘59 Edsel, ‘94 Trans-Am, ‘98 Z28 with LS6 Corvette crate engine and the ‘72 Dodge Challenger 383 R/T clone.

My favorite car that is long gone? A tie between the ‘68 Camaro SS/RS and the ‘67 GTX. Only one was stolen, the ‘75 Cadillac, but I got it back.

Finally, remember that back in the 1960s and early 1970s, used cars were way cheaper than today, and even the brand-new ones like the ‘74 AMC Hornet only cost $2,900 or so. Of all the cars above, the Hornet, Gremlin, Trans-Am, LHS, G6, Grand Am, ‘73 Dodge Pickup and Dodge Grand Caravan were purchased new. The only car I ever ordered was the ‘94 Trans-Am, and the only car leased was the Chrysler LHS. I've also included the cars I bought for my three kids, Pontiac G6 and Grand Am for my daughters, and the Z-28 that I own with my son.

Thanks, Fran, for taking me down memory lane this week.
