Nearly a year after being dragged from his previous apartment on Chatham West Drive, David Luke, father of accused spree killer Keith Luke, was again taken from his Brockton apartment by police on Monday, but this time inside an ambulance.
Several police with guns drawn surrounded and then entered a multifamily house at 569 Crescent St. after Luke made loud threats from a second-floor window, authorities and witnesses said.
According to reports from the area, police surrounded the two-story house where Luke, 42, occupied the second of eight apartments.
Witnesses said police entered the building and talked with Luke before they emerged from the house and walked Luke to a waiting ambulance. No shots were fired.
Nick Vega, 27, who lives downstairs from David Luke, called him a quiet person who didn’t mix a lot with the other neighbors.
“He drinks a lot,” Vega said, but he also described him as a man who likes to play guitar and cook, and who received frequent visits from his mother.
Vega, who has lived in his apartment for two years, said Luke has only lived there for about six months.
The 500 block of Crescent Street, east of downtown, is heavily traveled and dominated by two-story, multi-apartment homes.
Vincent Hayes, 88, lives next door to Luke. He said the eight-unit house is very quiet, that he never sees anyone coming or going.
“That house could be empty for all I know,” he said.
Hayes said there were three squad cars, an ambulance and a fire truck at the scene, and the entire incident lasted about two hours, wrapping up about 4 p.m.
On Jan. 24, 2009, the same day as his son Keith’s arraignment in the alleged killing spree, David Luke was intoxicated and threatened to kill police officers as he was taken from his previous apartment, authorities said at the time. Police were there to serve a warrant to commit him to a Fall River treatment program.
Keith Luke, who when last seen in court had a shaved head and a swastika etched into his forehead, is accused of killing two people and raping and critically wounding a third victim on Jan. 21, 2009, in Brockton in what authorities have called a racially motivated attack. All three victims were Cape Verdean.
The self-proclaimed white supremacist is accused of killing Selma Goncalves, 20, and Arlindo Goncalves, 72, and wounding a third person whom he also is accused of raping.
The younger Luke then led police on a chase through the city before crashing his van. He is also charged with shooting at officers.
Keith Luke has been held without bail, awaiting trial, since his Jan. 21 arrest.
